The Causes of War Poster Assignment

You will make a poster to present the 4 causes of World War I.  Each student must do their own poster.  On this poster you will use visuals and words to present the concepts which are described in your notebook.

Design

Your poster should have a title.  Also, there should be four sections on the poster—one for each of the four causes of war.  Here is a basic organization for the poster:

The Causes of War

Nationalism + National Hatred

Militarism

Imperialism

Unfair International Law

In each section, you should use pictures, cartoons or symbols to represent and explain each cause of war.  Also, use words to make the definitions of each term clear.  (Consult your notes for clear definitions of the four causes of war.)

Grading

Each cause of war on the poster is worth 10 points, 5 for the content ideas and 5 for the artistry.  All together, the poster is worth 40 points.

The CONTENT grade:  Do you present a clear definition of the cause.  Do you use some original language or examples?  Is the full meaning of the cause clear from your presentation.  Are your examples real or realistic and from the WWI time period?

The ARTISTRY grade: Did you take time on the drawings and the coloring?  Are the titles and pictures arranged well?  Is the writing in the titles and the text neat and clear?  Is the poster wrinkled or tattered?  (You may use pictures printed from the internt, but they should be chosen for their relevance and they should be cut out, arranged and displayed neatly and with clear explanation for their significance.)
